A NEW GENERATION OF HOLIDAYS IN THE GREEK ISLANDS
Few, if any, tour operators can match the flexibility
and range of options for holidays on the Greek island of
Paxos offered by Travel à la carte working in
association with Paxos Life Activities.
With the increasing number of both scheduled and charter
flights to the Greek Islands, and the advent of a
generation of travellers increasingly more confident
about making their own holiday arrangements, many tour
operators are now offering ‘accommodation only’ options
and more flexible rental periods and changeover days.
However, few, if any, can offer the same degree of
flexibility and range of options as specialist operator
Travel à la carte, which is now also able to offer
special interest holiday courses, and skippered and
bareboat yacht charter add-ons for as little as two
days.
Travel à la carte, a small family business that has been
taking visitors to the Greek Islands for more than 30
years, believes that the key to success lies in moving
away from the rigid structure of the traditional one-or
two-week package holiday to offer clients the chance to
put together their own flexible and varied itineraries,
with whatever level of assistance they need in order to
do so.
Travel à la carte made this decision back in 2007 and
for Summer 2010 is offering an expanded selection of
hand-picked villas with pools, village houses and
apartments, mainly on the Ionian island of Paxos but
also on Corfu and other Greek islands. And not only is
the company offering the maximum degree of flexibility
by making most properties available for rent from as
little as two nights, but on certain dates it can also
arrange for clients on Paxos to join creative writing,
painting, photography, self-development and yoga courses
run by special interest holiday operator, Paxos Life
Activities, through which skippered or bareboat yacht
charter is also available all season for as little as
two days. Transfers, car hire and other services can be
booked as required and, although Travel à la carte does
not book flights, experienced staff are always on hand
to offer advice.
So, with regular scheduled flights to Corfu from London
Gatwick, Manchester and Bristol, and charter flights
from many UK airports, there are enormous possibilities
for putting together extremely interesting variations on
the traditional Greek holiday on Travel à la carte’s
main destination of Paxos. And of course it is also
possible to travel to Paxos via the international car
ferries that run between Italy and Greece: from Venice,
Ancona, Bari and Brindisi to Corfu and Igoumenitsa.
So it would, for example, be possible to spend a week on
Paxos followed by a week or a weekend on Corfu; or a
week on Paxos simply relaxing followed by a week
learning new skills on one of Paxos Life Activities’
special interest holiday courses. Or
you could arrive on Paxos on a Friday to spend the usual
one or two weeks in your favourite villa but then,
instead of returning to Corfu by hydrofoil at the end of
your holiday, charter a spacious Sun Oddysey 52.2 that
offers real luxury and style for eight complete with
skipper. You could then leave Paxos on the Friday
morning to sail via Parga or Sivota on the coast of
Epirus, or the idyllic bays of North East Corfu and
arrive at Corfu Town or Gouvia Marina on the Sunday
evening or Monday morning. With a longer charter from
either Corfu or Paxos, you
might explore the idyllic bays on Paxos and Anti
Paxos, the coast of Epirus and Lefkada, and perhaps even
venture as far as Ithaca and Kefalonia. A
Bavaria 41, which can be
chartered with or without a skipper, is also available
and is ideal for smaller groups or for anyone wanting to
enjoy sailing for just a couple of days, while retaining
the comfort of their own villa.
Travel à la carte’s ‘accommodation only’ prices on Paxos
start from as little as £249 for a week in a studio for
two with shared pool in early May, and rise to £14,318
for a week in a luxurious villa for 18 with pool in
August.
Prices for Paxos Life Activities’ special interest
holiday courses range from £225 to £345 for ‘course
only’, or from £645 to £925 for the course plus
accommodation in one of the villas featured in Travel à
la carte’s Summer 2010 programme, transfers from Corfu
and some meals.
Charter prices for the Sun Oddysey 52.2 and Bavaria 41
are available ‘on application’ but the guide price for a
week’s charter of the Sun Oddysey 52.2 with skipper is
£5,000 - £6,000 and for two days’ charter £2,000 -
£2,500. The guide price for the charter of the Bavaria
41 is £350 - £450 per day, or £500 - £600, if a skipper
is required.
