GAIOS
Gaios is the main village on the island and the centre for
communications, as the hydrofoil, car ferries and sea
plane all arrive at and leave from the New Port, and, in
addition, sea taxis leave from the very pretty main
square. It is also where most of the shops and services
are located: the post office, electricity offices,
telephone (OTE) office, council buildings, and the tax
office are all situated in Gaios. It is a very
attractive village with a particularly attractive
harbour where many yachts and small boats are moored.

Gaios has a good range of facilities:
Beaches – There is a small but attractive town beach
about five minutes walk from the main square and the
other beaches on the island can easily be reached either
by local bus or by hiring a car, scooter or small boat.
However, many people who stay in Gaios choose to take
either the speedboat water taxi or the traditional
caique to Anti Paxos with its wonderful sandy beaches.
Supermarkets and Other Shops
- Gaios is the main shopping centre on the island and
there are many supermarkets in the village with a wide
choice of food and other everyday items. There is also a
wide variety shops selling clothes, jewellery, DIY,
gardening equipment etc.
Tavernas, Bars and Kafenios - There is a vast
range of tavernas, bars, kafenios and fast-food outlets
in the square, around the town and along the harbour
front.
Currency Exchange - There is a bank and a couple of ATMs in
Gaios and most shops and tavernas now take credit card
payments.
Sports - There are boats for hire from the harbour and there is a
good football pitch on the road to Magazia, where the
local Paxos team plays every other Sunday in the winter.
Churches
- There is an Orthodox church in the square and
a number of others elsewhere in the village.
