THE ISLAND OF PAXOS
ANTI PAXOS
About a mile south of Paxos is the island of Anti Paxos, with its
wonderful sandy beaches and turquoise blue water that is
ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Anti Paxos is just a
mile wide and two miles long but the beaches are amongst
the best in the whole of Greece and even rival those in
the Caribbean!

Vrika and Voutoumi are the two main beaches on Anti Paxos. Vrika
is sandy, whereas Voutoumi is pebbly but sandy once in
the water. There are tavernas on both beaches and above
Voutoumi Beach is the Bella Vista taverna, with its
wonderful views along the coast of Anti Paxos and across
to Paxos - a short sharp climb but more than worth the
effort.
Inland, Anti Paxos is very different from its larger neighbour
Paxos and is well worth exploring. A network of narrow
paths and tracks leads through the maquis and over the
undulating countryside past orchards, vineyards and the
walled gardens of the houses in the village of Vigla
down to the small harbour of Agrapidia and the quiet
coves in the south of the island. The terrain is
steep and uneven in places and good walking shoes are
recommended.

Anti Paxos has a population of less than 100,
some of whom produce a highly prized red wine that is
rarely available for sale. There are no shops on the
island.
Anti Paxos can be reached in just 15 minutes using the
sea taxis that leave Gaios several times a day, and also
by traditional caique which takes a little longer. Sea
taxis also leave from Lakka and Loggos and
round-the-island boat trips also usually spend a couple
of hours on the island.
